Kenya Safari from Europe: Flights from Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy and Spain

By the Africa Safaris team, Nairobi · · 3 min read

Planning a Kenya safari from Europe? Flights from Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt and more, EUR price guidance, entry rules, the best months and how to book a private safari.

From most of Europe, Kenya is an overnight flight away and only one or two hours ahead of home. That makes a Kenya safari from Europe surprisingly easy: no long jet lag, and you can be watching lions the morning after you leave. Whether you're searching "Safari Kenia buchen" in Germany, "safari Kenya prix" in France or "safari Kenia" in Spain or Italy, this guide covers the practical side.

Flights from Europe to Kenya

The main gateway is Nairobi (NBO). Popular routes include:

  • Netherlands: KLM and Kenya Airways fly direct from Amsterdam.
  • France: Air France and Kenya Airways fly direct from Paris.
  • Germany, Austria and Switzerland: connect via Amsterdam, Paris, Istanbul, Doha, Dubai or Addis Ababa. Some seasonal and leisure flights also serve Mombasa on the coast.
  • Italy and Spain: connect via a European, Middle Eastern or Ethiopian hub. Italians have a long tradition of beach holidays in Malindi and Watamu, which pair well with a short safari in Tsavo.

Kenya is on GMT+3, so it's one to two hours ahead of Central European Time.

Prices in euros

Entry rules for EU travellers

EU citizens need a Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA), applied for online before travel, and a passport valid for at least six months. If you continue to the Serengeti or Zanzibar, apply for a Tanzania e-visa as well. Check your own foreign ministry's travel advice before booking.

Guides who speak your language

Our standard safaris use professional English-speaking driver-guides. German-, French-, Italian- and Spanish-speaking guides are available on request, subject to availability and sometimes for a supplement. Mention your language when you book, and we'll confirm before you pay.

Best months for European travellers

  • July–October: the Great Migration in the Masai Mara. This matches the European summer holidays, so it's the busiest time and worth booking early.
  • December–February: warm, dry weather and a welcome escape from the European winter. It also combines beautifully with the beach in Diani or Zanzibar.
  • Green season (April–May and November): lower prices and fewer vehicles.

Suggested itineraries

  1. One week, classic Kenya: Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Amboseli. See the 6-Day Kenya Classic.
  2. Beach and bush: a safari followed by Diani or Zanzibar. See the beach and bush safaris.
  3. Northern Kenya: Samburu's special species and the rhinos of Ol Pejeta. See 5-Day Samburu & Ol Pejeta.
